Data Analysis – Results are measured by data. We must not gather data for data’s sake, but utilize the information we learn from analyzing the data to make instructional decisions to improve student performance.
Resource Allocation – Our students deserve the best we have to offer. Access to technology and exposure to best practices in terms of education and information delivery will help to prepare students for life beyond high school.
Teacher Evaluation and Professional Development – Evaluating teachers to help them grow and to facilitate collaboration is crucial to student success. Joining forces with other rural school districts to provide professional development for staff members allows smaller schools to continue to offer stellar professional development for staff.
Facilities Management – In smaller communities the public schoolhouse is often considered to be the heartbeat of the community. This building brings the community together for a variety of different purposes. To that end, it is very important that facilities be maintained and updated as appropriate.
Scheduling – Scheduling is often cited by high performing schools as one of the key factors of their success. Throughout my time in public education, I have had to create and modify numerous schedules in order to enhance student learning.
COMMUNITY
In many cases, particularly in smaller communities, the superintendent is a key member of the community. I firmly believe that, if at all possible, the superintendent should live in the community from which the salary is drawn. I look forward to entering a community and taking part in all that it has to offer. I realize that the school, particularly in smaller towns, is a significant part of the lifeblood of a community. It is my goal to create a school climate where everyone feels welcome, safe, and challenged.
