Relator * Achiever * Learner * Competition * Harmony
These are my top strengths according to The Gallup Strengths Finder. I would like to take a moment to explain how these strengths translate into my role as a superintendent. I am a competitive person. I work hard to come out on top and I want those that I work with and serve to win as well. I am continuously looking at the most recent and relevant educational research relating to student achievement. There is a great deal to learn in speaking with others who have been down similar roads. I have the proven ability to relate to people from different socio-economic backgrounds, religious backgrounds, and ethnic backgrounds. I believe that a free and appropriate public education can be the great equalizer and is truly one of the greatest gifts our country has to offer. Every student has the ability to learn when provided the opportunity to do so. My years in the special education field have fostered my ability to build and sustain positive relationships as well as my ability to create harmonious working relationships with all stakeholders. I am an achiever. My dependability and proven ability to stay the course has allowed me to continue to achieve results for my organization, teachers, students, and for myself.
I have served as the Superintendent on the Santee Sioux Nation Indian Reservation. I am a firm believer that all children deserve equal access to and excellent education. I am a life-long learner and believe that I can be an example for staff and students as to the importance of continuous learning. I am also a student of TEEOSA as this is the Act that directly affects school funding in Nebraska. Smaller schools in Nebraska need to have a larger voice at the State level to ensure equity in funding.
I am from a family of successful educational administrators and therefore keenly aware of the demands of the superintendent position. I grew up in a small community and that is truly where I feel at home. As evidenced by my resume, I am not one who frequently moves from job to job. I am looking for a place where I can make a difference and a place to call home for many years to come.
